Short Bio
I completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biochemistry at Bielefeld University, specialising in Chemical Biology for my Master’s. I also undertook internships at Bayer AG in Leverkusen in the Biotransformation Unit and at the University of Graz through the Erasmus programme. While I initially began studying biochemistry with the intention of contributing to cancer research, I soon realised that I was more interested in (bio-)organic chemistry, particularly I was fascinated by the ability of enzymes to act as biocatalysts.
Outside of the lab, I enjoy swimming, scuba diving, walking in the countryside, or spending time in botanical gardens. I can talk enthusiastically about sports, such as football, winter sports, and cycling. As well as good research results, which I suppose every scientist is happy about, I also enjoy teaching others something new. If I had not become a scientist, I would probably be a gardener or a florist now, given my passion for nature and plants. After completing my PhD in this DN, I would like to continue doing research while also finding ways to pass on my knowledge and interest in science to others.
